Sample Activities

Nature observation- reflecting, breathing, and listening to our environment and ourselves will be a key component of the program. Observation is one of the fundamental skills needed for gathering scientific information and constructing meaning about our world.

Loose parts play- using a myriad of open ended materials to invigorate the imagination, imagine possibilities and investigate how things go together.

Storytelling- telling group stories will be a big part of the program. Children will explore a variety of topics through storytelling, not to mention a variety of ways to tell stories! Topics explored: sound-symbol correspondence, math, problem solving, social-emotional topics, social justice topics and more in the stories.

Fine motor strength & coordination creative arts- E.g. clay, beading, peg boards, tool use, wood working, & collage.

Reflective nature journals- teacher will model authentic and meaningful reasons to document findings and thoughts in journals to inspire the children’s use of their nature journals for observations and reflective practice.

Big body play- children will take their own risks in exploring nature and in their own development of group games.

Multi-sensory play- children will be invited to engage in a variety sensory activities such as digging, rock collecting, mud painting, splash painting, and rain play!
